Family fun

I know that it has been some time since I have posted. There is so much going on in my life right now that my head is just full. (Besides that, my husband has been working on our computers for almost two months now backing stuff up and making upgrades, so it has been a challenge getting easy access to my files and the internet.) I will try my best to catch up on my posts.

We had quite a lot of snow this winter which has meant a lot of family fun in the snow. This last snowfall we had the opportunity to try sledding (with a borrowed sled from Bro Herrera). It was a first for Liam and me. Since my boy is still so little, I decided that it would be safer to find a small slope somewhere nearby instead of heading all the way out to the only one grand slope in our neighborhood which is a bit of a hike, or making the longer trek out to the frequented snowy hills of Prospect Park.

We practiced on a small mound, a snow drift nearby, to figure out the sled. When we saw how much Liam enjoyed it, we decided to walk a bit further, closer to the shore by a small but steep area. So there we were, all alone in that area on a bright, sunny day making footprints on untouched snow. Just beautiful, cold, but so beautiful.

My Sesame Street fan

 
We made it, after all, to the Sesame Street exhibit at the Brooklyn Central Library. This exhibit had been on display there since November, but we just made it there the last day before it was taken down. We love Sesame Street. In fact, we are huge fans. It's just that every time we wanted to go someone either fell sick, it was rainy, snowy or just brutally cold. Without a doubt, it was a very long winter. Frankly, there is only so much cold and blustery wind a whiny little boy (and his mama) can handle. But it couldn't wait any longer and we just had to get out there to see it. Neither one of us were sick and the weather wasn't that bad. This was our big chance, our last chance to see it before it was gone.

As soon as we got there, he made a mad dash towards the first puppet on display that caught his eye, none other than Elmo, of course. The Bert and Ernie puppets were also prominently on display at the entrance. There was all sorts of Sesame Street memorabilia there at the entrance from its early days all the way down to the present day. I have always said that it is so obvious that the old Sesame Street was way better than the Sesame Street we see nowadays with its longer, less interesting and longer segments. (Even the newer version of the theme song isn't as appealing. It feels rushed.) Well, those exhibits at the entrance just confirmed it. We strolled around the wonderful exhibits on the main floor made up of beautifully detailed drawings and then made our way to get him his first library card. We were informed that there were a few more displays at the children's wing, mostly made up of the clay sculptures used for the claymation. There was also a TV set displaying segments of the old Sesame Street on the opposite end of the library, but by the time we got there, Liam was tired out, so we just watched a little of it while we put our coats on.
